Ambushed
Ps Stanley took time out to visit and minister to our missionary couple in South Asia — J & C, from 1st to 11th January this year. It was an adventure unlike any other.
We conducted a 3-day pastors/leaders conference at CNL-Mango and had to travel, by road, to get there. Halfway there, we came to a standstill along the mountain road. Someone claiming to be a rebel had a grenade and was extorting money from the tour buses. Suddenly, he disappeared down the valley upon hearing the sirene of an ambulance. He must have mistaken it for the police!
Rebel ambush attacks were very rampant during my stay! On our return trip back to the city, we saw a broken down bus with shattered windows and multiple rows of bullet holes on its side. We later learnt that a fierce rebel ambush took place at that very spot about 2 days ago. 3 soldiers were killed and many others were wounded.
During the pastors/leaders conference at CNL-Mango, a bomb exploded at a nearby Post Office one early morning
On the final night of the conference, as we were walking back to our lodge, someone shouted at us, ‘STOP THERE! DON'T MOVE!’ I could tell that the voice came from a dark corner from a house rooftop. We were stunned. The voice then demanded that I turned off my small torchlight. ‘What if he plans to shoot us once I turned it off? Should I say my last prayer now?!!’ J responded by saying that we were foreigners. Thank God nothing happened!
About 46 pastors, wives and leaders attended the conference. God visited us over meals, devotions, teachings, altar ministries and evening services. I also had the honour to ‘open’ a new church for the members and villagers at CNL-Berry. The whole sanctuary was jam-packed with 250 people and 15 gave their hearts to Jesus that day.
Last year, 3 pieces of land were donated by one of our key leader's boss who is a pre-believer. He has also generously pledged to sponsor 2 more pieces of land this year. Praise the Lord! Do remember to pray for Mr Wong's salvation. Let us continue to expand our lives for others and for His sake!
