Stretched
Dennis & Daisy,
PHILIPPINES
It has been a wonderful and meaningful Christmas for Daisy, Daniel and myself. We experienced cozy Singaporean fellowship! We had two teams from Singapore come to minister to the people here. The first team comprised of 5 working professionals from FCBC and the second team was made up of 7 youths from CNL-S’pore. The programme lasted 26 days (Nov 26 to Dec 21, 2003), and as a result all the bible school students were stretched to the maximum. Despite our tiredness, the sight of people receiving Christ as their Lord and Saviour invigorated us. We had around 150 non-church goers come to receive the Lord. Pray with us that these new believers will continue to return and worship with us.
The FCBC team was here from November 26 to December 4. Our Bible School students learnt about Team Work and the book of Timothy from the team. The Holy Spirit moved freely during the training and the students experienced a breakthrough in their personal lives. Some were humbled and others began to see the importance of team work. After the training in Tacloban, the ladies travelled 7 hours with the students to CNL-Calbayog to bless the people in that province. God touched many during the meeting.
The Youth Team from CNL-S’pore arrived in Tacloban on December 11 and returned to Singapore after celebrating Christmas with us on December 21. This was the first time such a young team (mostly 15 year olds) came to minister with us. They mixed easily with the bible school students, and had a very effective time in the village outreach. A few of them are potential missionaries — they did not have any problem adapting to the food and environment! (Read about their stories in the next section "HEADTURNERS")
We organized a 4-night crusade at Quarry village and distributed more than 240kg of rice. We experienced the spirit of Christmas through giving, just like God giving Jesus to the world. We thank and praise Him for these young people who used their personal savings to buy rice for distribution to the villagers. We are also grateful to the FCBC team for bringing toys to distribute to the children during Christmas day.
PRAYER REQUESTS
- CNL-HUB: We are looking forward to build a HUB in San Miguel to house a church, school, orphanage and farm. It will be a self-supporting platform to train and send church planters as well as to bless the community. Pray with us that S$300,000 could be raised by the year 2005.
- CNL-Tacloban: Pray for a committed and passionate local pastor for the church. Pray also for the new believers to be committed to discipleship.
- Training School: Budget for the School is still lacking. Please pray for more provisions.
- Us: The 3 of us have been coughing for about a month now and Daniel frequently wakes up in the night vomiting. Pray for strength, good health and wisdom to prevent burn-out.
