Praise and Prayer

Dennis & Daisy, Philippines

School holidays are from March to June in the Philippines. This is one of the most awaited moments in the children’s calendar. In April, we were invited to teach in a five-day Vacation Bible School in Tacloban Christian Church. 170 children with ages ranging from 2 to 15 years old signed up for this program. Daisy taught in the Nursery class (2-4 years old) and I taught different groups of children everyday. We even prepared games for all of them at the end of the VBS. The children and parents participated in the games and are looking forward to the next VBS.

In May, we had our first Combined Youth Camp at Calbayog, Samar. Most of the youths travelled 8 hours to reach the destination. They raised their own fare by selling home-made candies and by offering cleaning services for homes and shops. We were privileged to have Rev. Lawrence Seow from Singapore as our camp speaker. The youths are challenged to live a life with a purpose for God. God moved powerfully in our midst with many being touched and surrendering themselves fully to Him.

We praise and give glory to God for giving us the boldness and vision to raise a new generation of leaders by way of pre- school education. With that vision, we started Bright Sparks International Pre-School. We trust the Lord that this school will be the instrument to help us reach out to different families and to groom children to be leaders of tomorrow. At this point, do pray together with us for 40 students to be enrolled into our school. We are trusting the Lord for 20 Pre-Nursery pupils as well as 20 Nursery pupils. Pray also for doors to be opened to us to reach out to more teachers and to nurture them to be future disciplers and church planters.

We have never been so terrified until we had a brush with burglary in April. Normally, we do not keep money at home as it is always in the bank. However, on receiving news of my mother’s death, we withdrew money from the bank in advance to pay for the kindergarten start-up expenses, and left some money at home while we rushed back to Singapore. When we returned, we discovered that our room was sandy, but did not suspect anything until a few days later when we found that some money was missing. This was the first time the burglar struck. Before we knew it, the burglar returned a second time shortly after the first. He broke-into our home during our monthly meeting with all our outstation pastors which was usually held in the church. He broke through the roof and entered by the back door. We thank God that what was lost was only money and not our lives. The police managed to lift a fingerprint of the culprit. Please pray that the case will come to a conclusion and pray for our safety and protection whenever we travel and wherever we are.
