Power of Christ to Heal and Transform

Nut Church was planted six months ago, is growing steadily where about 40 people gather regularly for its weekly service. Before coming to Christ, Hari T. in his 40s used to be a witchdoctor for many years in his village. He was well known for his healing powers through the chanting of mantras. He was the one the villagers would go to if they were inflicted with sickness or near death. There came a time when Hari’s wife suffered a mental breakdown. In spite of using all the mantras he knew, Hari could do nothing to help his wife. The couple came to know about the church in his village and learned of the power of Christian prayers. They decided to seek help from them. Upon hearing the Gospel Hari was convinced that Christ is the true God and committed his life to Jesus on that day. The mental condition of his wife began to improve and Hari started to share the Gospel to the people in the village. Through Hari’s testimony, many came to believe in Jesus and join the church. The believers are praying to take the Gospel to the next village over 3 hours drive away. That village is largely underdeveloped and lack security. One of the main social issues there is human trafficking of young girls and the community is not open to the Gospel as most of them are steeped in idol worship. Pray that God will empower His church to bring His light and truth to this village and bring wholistic freedom to the lives of the villagers through the power of the Gospel.

Both Paul and Annie come from similar family backgrounds – their fathers deserted their families when they were young. Paul’s mother remarried and the stepfather disliked Paul and ill-treated the young boy. Paul was loaded with household chores and became quiet and reserved. Paul’s aunt approached our home for help and Paul has been with us since 2004. Last year when the aunt saw how much Paul has changed she was overwhelmed with tears. The aunt recalled that Paul hardly spoke as a boy and thought that he was speech impaired. So she was overjoyed to learn that Paul did well in his School Leaving Exams last year and now speaks with confidence. Paul has grown to be a fine young man and works hard to save as much money as he can as he does not want to be poor. His ambition is to be an accountant when he graduates.

When Annie was small, she was very much left alone with relatives by her mother. The time came when they could no longer keep her and Annie was referred to us and accepted into our home in March 2005. Annie seemed to be an average student but to our pleasant surprise she passed and scored 70% for her School Leaving Exams. As she likes to read, her best subject is English. She did really well for the fact that only 41% made it for this year’s national exams. Annie has a heart for social work and is currently enrolled in Hotel Management and hopes to help and work in the hotel Operation Hope Foundation is planning to start.
