Faith Without Works is Dead
Last February Bir G, a believer for many years, enrolled for the church planters training at our centre. Upon graduating in May, he returned to pastor the new church he planted earlier. Over 20 people with 6 baptised members are gathering regularly today. To visit them, it will take 10 hours’ bus ride from the city and 2 hours’ walk.
Situated in the central region, it takes 5 hours by bus from the capital city to reach them. After completing our 3-months in-house church-planting course, Him S returned home to start this new work to reach his people in his village for Christ. Currently about 10 believing families with 7 baptised members are attending the weekly worship service.
This year our centre purchased 3 plots of land for the growing churches and helped 7 churches to complete their building projects.
20 year old Daniel is one of the first few boys that came to the home when it started in 2000. He was then 7 years old and Daniel came to us with a cataract condition in both his eyes. This was largely due to the hard work of daily carrying fire wood for the house since the age of 5. When Daniel was young his father passed away and his mother remarried. The family comes from a remote mountainous village with harsh living conditions. After the cataract operation Daniel could only see mostly with his right eye till today. In such condition Daniel completed his twelve years of school and is now pursuing his degree in business studies. In October, Daniel made a trip to his birth village, his mother and relatives were overjoyed to see Daniel and did not expect him to grow up to be such a fine and educated young man. After he returned from the trip, Daniel was water baptised in church. In his own words: “I decided to take water baptism because I think it is important for me to have a deeper relationship with the Lord. I have decided to accept Christ and follow him all the way. God has really blessed me richly and in the same way I want to be a blessing to others.” We praise the Lord for His hand of grace and redeeming work in Daniel’s life.
Construction for the home will start in January 2014 for 18 months. Construction of the hotel is targeted to start in April 2014. The new home and hotel bring hope and provide a sense of security for the children in the knowledge that there is work available when they complete their studies.
