A Teacher, A Church & New Doors

RP, East Asia

I am glad to be able to return to this city on 1 October 2010 under the covering of CNL. Thank God for opening the doors to study in a university here. Currently, I have three teachers and one of them is a Christian and leading a house church! In November, he allowed me to bring a guest speaker to his church and asked me to help with the translation as he preached on the grace and love of God. Following this, I helped him conduct a Creation-to-Christ training in December to equip the church for evangelism.

During one of the training sessions, there was a 19 year-old boy who came for the first time. He accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord immediately after the training when I shared with him the Gospel. He has also completed the training and is ready to share the Gospel with others. During the second session, a church member shared with a taxi driver prior to the training and brought him to the class. Although he had to leave midway, it was comforting to know that he left with a copy of the notes and would read the remaining parts on his own, which includes an explanation on how to pray to follow Jesus Christ as his Lord.

My other two teachers have yet to believe even though they have heard the Gospel. One of them has several copies of the bible in different languages and the other one has a copy for research purposes. Pray that they will eventually desire to follow Christ.

New Ministry Work

This time when I am back here, I had a very strange initial feeling which I never had before. When I hear the cries of cats in the middle of the night, I feel that there are people in the city who are crying and yet no one cares for them at all. Though I looked around, I could not find any one crying out for help. It was only on 27 October night that I felt a strong call to intercede for the prostitutes and the next morning, to intercede for the prisoners. Then I realized that they are the most unlikely people whom I will meet on the street.

Prostitutes

I befriended a 56 year-old lady who is working in a motel. When I shared the Gospel with her on our first meeting, she believed. I also befriended a lady pimp whom I initially thought was a prostitute. I also shared the Gospel with her on our second meeting but she has yet to believe although her mother-in-law is a Christian.

Prisoners

Initially, I did not know how and where to start looking for this target group ministry because I did not even know where the prisons are. But encouragement came when a teacher told me that a prison is just next to my school. He even told me that there are cries coming out from the prison at night because the inmates are being beaten up. And another teacher told me that he has put up a proposal to teach prison rehabilitation work but was rejected because not even Social Workers could go into the prisons. As there is no way for me to enter into the prisons to do any work at the moment, my focus for this ministry is prayer.

Will there be a Rahab amongst the prostitutes or a Joseph among the prisoners? I certainly don’t know. But one thing I do know is that God knows!
