Personal Holiness, Public Impact
And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward Him and find Him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us.
Fay is in her early 20’s who tried to take her own life when her boyfriend broke up with her. The night that she attempted suicide, she sent a text message to her Christian teacher who had been trying to counsel her. In it she said she would “Let God decide her fate.” God indeed decided her fate. Her suicide attempt failed and she woke up the next morning. Several concerned Christians soon found her and tried to help her get up. When her Christian teacher finally got to see her, he shared the Gospel with her and she accepted it. That night, she had the most peaceful sleep of her life. She testified the next day at a follow up session that it seemed like several years had passed since that night and the effect of the break up seemed strangely distant. We could not contain our joy but give praise and worship to God for giving her new life, a new beginning and peace instead of fear. Truly while the enemy tries to kill, God saves!
Boy-Girl relationship is a messy thing in this city. Most people enter into relationship for the wrong reasons (including believers). Many are devastated when the relationship turns sour and wouldn’t know how to handle them. Some would turn to extreme approaches to handle the failure, shame etc.
It’s been a couple of busy months where God has opened up opportunities for us to share with the locals God’s vision and to train them in biblical strategies to partner with Him and each other in church planting.
Even as I’m going through the training notes and scriptures and imparting these information to the locals, God is at the same time refining my world view, attitudes and the way that I work so that all these become more and more in line with His word. Just another area that I find Him doing that is in the area of holiness.
Personal holiness flows out to impact the kingdom’s work in public societies. Was Joseph, Daniel or even Paul able to impact nations because of strategies? In Paul’s case, strategy definitely helped bring the gospel to places. But I believe it is their lives lived in holiness that allowed the Holy Spirit to move so freely through their message, their work, their service to make lasting impact for the Kingdom. The crux is in working towards God’s vision with the methods that He has given us by relying on the power of the Spirit through clean vessels.
Please pray that all believers in the city (that includes us) would walk in holiness in every area of their lives so that Christ’s life may flow through them in speech, in acts, in attitudes and many will see and hear and believe in Christ. Continue to ask for the establishment of God’s glory even as He brings His vision for the city to pass (Daniel 15)
