God's Promises, Our Confidence

A friend recently shared on an experience that she had while working as an architect for our South Asian Missions Centre. In every stage of the construction of the building, she does not just see a foundation being laid or a wall being built or a door being installed but she sees the elements as what they would be like in their completed form. The construction workers who bend the reinforcement steel for the columns or lay the bricks for the walls probably could not see or grasp the same perspective as she did. Thus it came as no surprise to see the excitement and unbelief on the construction workers’ faces when they were shown a coloured computer rendition of what the building would eventually look like when completed!

Bending a bar or buliding history?

This friend’s experience resonates with what I read in the Book of Joshua and what I see in this City. God had promised to give to the Israelites the land that they were entering as an inheritance. Even though at that point of time the land wasn’t theirs yet. In God’s eyes it was a done deal. Joshua believed God that it was a done deal when he, in obedience, distributed the land to the 12 tribes of Israel even though at the point of land distribution, much of the designated land were not theirs yet. What was required of them was that they love the Lord and obey Him. I see this confidence in Joshua as he declared boldly to the people,

Not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

(Joshua 23:14)

In the same way, I believe Father has good promises for this City. And His purpose for this City is that it will reflect His glory (Isa 62:6-7). Even though now we don’t see it in its fullness yet, even though we still face challenges day in and day out, God’s promises to this City is a done deal. His invitation to us is to love Him and to obey Him and to enter into His work as He fulfills His promises.

Believe with me and praise God for:

  • the progress of the work here;
  • growing faith and obedience of new believers;
  • growing obedience in local churches to share and to disciple others;
  • breakthroughs in access to previously hard grounds and
  • faithful prayer partners whose prayers
