God of the 20%
LESSON 1
A few of us planned a much anticipated hike up a nearby mountain one particular day. But the weather forecast showed that it was going to pour the whole week. And as forecasted, the rain came and got heavier as the day approached. We checked the weather forecast again the night before the hike and there was an 80% chance of rain in the morning. I battled with a lot of emotions that night as I sat in bed, keenly aware that the rain was not relenting. Perhaps part of it was a pride issue (I initiated the trip) and partly was a heartfelt desire to “deliver” this trip as a blessing for those who have been looking forward to it all week. Finally I said, “God, if it’s going to rain tomorrow and we can’t go on the hike, we’ll delight ourselves in You in whatever we’ll get to do in the city. But if we do get to go on the hike, we’ll also delight in You in Your creation.” With that, I fell into a restful sleep.
Imagine my delight when I woke up the next morning to find that the rain had stopped! We went on the hike and it just got sunnier throughout the day. I could not stop being in awe of God and amazed that even with a 20% chance of success, He’s still God of that 20% and He’s able to bring about what He intends.

LESSON 2
I had to take an 11-hour train ride to another city for a meeting and I needed to purchase a certain ticket that would work best for my schedule. When I went to the train station, there were only 2 tickets left for the category that I wanted. I was probably the 30th person in the queue and there were at least 200 more people in the station trying to get their tickets to somewhere. So I just prayed that when it came to my turn at the counter, there would be at least 1 of that 2 available tickets left for me. To my surprise, not only was the ticket available, it was also the better seat!
God taught me two principles:
- Even when situations seem impossible, He is still the God of all and He is able to make possible what seems impossible to man.
- Not to give up till I see an outcome from Him.
So, “What seems impossible at this point in time and what have I yet to see an outcome from the Lord?” Planting vibrant churches amongst the yet-to-be-reached Hui people group came to my heart there and then.
An old Hui Gentleman
In Daniel 9, Daniel gave himself even more earnestly to prayer when he realized that what God had purposed to do is about to come to pass. Similarly, God’s purpose to save the Hui is about to come to pass and I would like to invite you to join me in praying earnestly for God’s kingdom and His will to come to pass amongst the Hui until we see an outcome from Him.
