Finding Land and Life in Paradise

OCTOBER 2018

After a year-long hiatus, work has finally resumed! Everyone is looking forward to the Big Move in April 2019.

SEPTEMBER 2017

Work is progressing very well. All casting work is done and we’re now working on finishes such as wall plastering, painting and tiling works. Everything can be completed by year end.

SEPTEMBER 2016

Work has resumed! It is full-steam ahead. We pray there won’t be any more delays or blockades or calamities. God willing, work will be fully completed by end 2017 and the children can move in by March 2018, before the new school term starts in April 2018.

DECEMBER 2015

Thank God our building-under-construction was not affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2015. No one was hurt and the foundation works suffered no damage. Work soon resumed after the quake but has since come to a complete halt in September because of the country’s worst fuel crisis in years. Cement cost has doubled and our contractor has decided to not proceed because of budget constraints. There seems to be no end in sight and most of the construction team have no choice but to return to their villages and wait for the nation’s borders to reopen before work can resume.

In times like these, we can only look to God to break the political gridlock. Thank you for praying along with us – your faith and trust keeps us going forward.

Thank God for providing a deep water source, 3-phase power supply and new gravel road with side drains on our land in 2014. Excavation for the buildings’ foundation is complete and work is in progress for the laying of steel rebars and concrete for the footers. Our new orphanage is taking form and shape in 2014! Each progress report encourages our children to pray with excitement for their new home. Together with the hotel, it inspires a sense of hope for a bright future. This hope helps them build their trust and faith in God. Looking forward to a better future motivates them to study hard and do their best in school.

BACKGROUND

The Home comprises of two main blocks (Blk A & B) consisting of separate accommodations for boys and girls with adjacent living quarters for house parents and guests. 120 disadvantaged children will have the opportunity to live and be provided for in this new place. There will also be a multipurpose hall, hobby rooms and classrooms as well as a large common dining hall. The main buildings are interconnected by a carpark cum courtyard. Our children are really excited about their new home!

The VISION: Our new children home (bottom left) with hotel (top)

To the north of our 3.5 hectare land is a magnificent unobstructed view of the snow-capped mountain range. And to the south, picturesque rice terraces. Thanks to its excellent location, the hotel will be an excellent platform for creating work opportunities for our grown up children as well as to generate income and support for the Home.

Target commencement of the hotel project is in the last quarter of 2019. Besides generating income to support the orphanage, the hotel business will provide work opportunities in the tour and service sectors for the children when they grow up. Please ask for the Lord’s blessing and favor in the progress and development of these two projects. For His glory!

Operation Hope Foundation (OHF) has been our ad-hoc partner for more than 10 years when we first started a small children’s home. Since 2005, they have officially taken our orphanage under their wing and have been providing the financial support and management while we run the Home for them on the ground. They were instrumental in helping to secure this land for our growing children. You can find out more about OHF at www.ohf.org.sg
