Faith & Works
Rev Stanley Ow
Missions Pastor
God who calls us is able to provide all our needs. He is Master, Giver and Increaser. The outcome of our precious salvation is good works. We appreciate Jesus Christ as our Saviour from the depths of our hearts. Like Paul, we are indebted to Him.
Follow Jesus in child-like faith and obedience. ‘You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.’ (James 2:22,24)
Action speaks louder than words. Upon knowing that God had placed Japan in our hearts in 1989, we began our preparation. Our Japanese language lessons began in 1990 while we were seminary students with the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in USA. While in Japan, I attempted to preach in Japanese with hours of preparation and listening. With the marginal financial support and high-cost of living, we taught English, conducted Chinese cooking classes so as to also build up friendship with the people. I had to change the car tyres twice a year because of the winter. For about 4 months each year, I would clear the snow. We experienced joy and fulfillment in seeing lives transformed; yet we had trying moments of pain, tears, misunderstandings, and loneliness.
Why did we endure all these things? Because we love God & His people. Faith results in good works with a willing heart – a willingness to give our all to Him. ‘If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness’ (2 Corinthians 11:16-30)
