Called to Greater Things
There is little doubt that we have entered into the “Last Days” which the bible talks about. We are witnessing natural calamities of mega proportions. Barely 3 weeks ago Philippines experienced the strongest super typhoon the world has ever witnessed. Typhoon Haiyan flattened everything in its way and brought a surge of seawater causing further destruction to the already devastated coastal city of Tacloban. The death toll is estimated to be over 10,000 and is still rising. Super powers like the US, Europe & even China are all debt ridden and experiencing a slow down. On the other hand, billions of dollars are reported to be “rising” for many Fortune 500 companies. Fortunes are rising for the super rich with no corresponding increment for the poor, thus widening the rich-poor gap at a frightening pace that will almost surely bring about social instability and unrest. This is the chaotic world we live in today.
As Christians, we are Christ’s disciples. This is a call that is beyond us because Christ our Lord is in the business of reconciling the world to Himself. It is a call that is beyond our natural abilities and strength. As we walk, we will naturally experience anxieties and anxiousness because it is afterall a call greater than us. We should not be immobilized by fear but rather to strengthen our focus on Christ, live in Him and to allow Him to work through us. Just as courage is not the absence of fear, living a life of faith is not the absence of anxieties. We can cast our anxieties on Him. He promises to carry us and our burdens.
Live these last days putting it all at His feet. Everything you have and all you are. Nothing will brace us for this chaotic time except Christ. In fact these chaotic times is a signal of His imminent return and when that happens, let it be said of us all “Well done, good and faithful servants!”
